Temp Bankruptcy/Legal Specialist III

Description:Responsible for applying Bankruptcy Code requirements to accounts. May be responsible for high level account analysis based on Bankruptcy Code and general collection law requirements. May assign accounts repossession and/or other outside action without supervisory approval based on pre-determined parameters. May negotiate with attorneys and/or debtors where permissible. May work directly with court personnel. May provide direction to less experienced staff including specialists.

Duties:Maintain, monitor and status bankruptcies - Including but not limited to preparing and forwarding all loan documents necessary to bankruptcy attorney, discharged bankruptcy maintenance; communicate with members, member attorneys, Coastal’s bankruptcy attorney and other internal departments. Prepare trustee payments for posting to bankrupt accounts.

Maintain legal placement accounts:

Small Claims: Prepare delinquent accounts for claims whose remaining balances fall under the prescribed cap for lower court, set up and follow up on payment arrangements for debtors who appear in small claims court with a willingness to repay the debt. Negotiate and handle settlement opportunities as they present themselves in small claims court.

Claim and Delivery: Prepare delinquent loans with collateral for attorney action.

Judgments: Work with credit union staff and approved attorneys to file judgments seeking repayment of loans, or in preparation for garnishments. Provide additional information to attorneys as necessary to complete all legal actions.

Ensure adherence to and knowledge of all applicable laws, Credit Union collection procedures, policies and the implementation of them. Maintain accurate and timely collection history log on all communication with our members and perform other duties as assigned



Qualifications:Minimum of five years consumer loan collection, consumer lending, or para-legal experience

Related college degree or completion of specialized courses of study at a business or trade school preferred

Proficiency with MS-Office and debt collection systems.

Experience in Bankruptcy and residential mortgage processing experience

Ability to analyze work outputs to Federal & State Bankruptcy Codes and guidelines

Experience in balancing and reconciling funds from mortgagor and trustee

Strong Organizational and communication skills
